Marc has been a professional freshwater scientist in New Zealand since 1993.

In this time he has visited and sampled over 70 lakes from Northland to Campbell Island, while authoring numerous technical papers, reports and providing expert advice in regional council and environment court hearings.

He is an associate editor of New Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, peer reviewer for the IPCC and NSF (US National Science Foundation) international scientific journals and government departments.

Lena Schallenberg

Lena completed her PhD at the University of Otago in 2022 focusing on the role of picocyanobacteria in New Zealand lakes. She has a background in limnology and aquatic microbial ecology from the University of Otago, University of Waikato and Dalhousie University (Canada).

Lena has previous experience in environmental research and consulting, working as a lake and molecular scientist at the Cawthron Institute, Environmental Scientist at Davis Consulting Group after time as a Research Assistant for LERNZ (Lake Ecosystem Research New Zealand) and the University of Otago Southern Lakes Lab. She is currently on the executive board of the International Society for Limnology (SIL) as the Early Career Global Outreach Representative.
